89 Surah Al Fajr – The Dawn
In the name of Allah, the entirely Merciful, the especially Merciful
- 1) Allah swears by the dawn
- 2) And the first ten nights of the month of Dhul Hijjah
- 3) And by the even and odd number
- 4) And by the night when it moves away,
- 5) Are all these great things not a good proof for humans with an intelligent mind to believe in Allah and let go of all sins?
- 6) Did you not see how Allah dealt with the people of ’Ȃd—
- 7) And the people˺ of Iram—with ˹their˺ great tall pillars.
- 8) there was no tribe that had been created as strong as this tribe.
- 9) And did you not see how Allah dealt with the people of Thamûd who carved ˹their homes into˺ the rocks in the ˹Stone˺ Valley;
- 10) and with the Pharaoh, the man of the pegs and nails with which he harmed the people
- 11) They all misbehaved and broke the laws of Allah on land,
- 12) Spreading mischief everywhere
- 13) So Allah sent on them different kinds of frightful punishments
- 14) Surely,Your Lord is always watching everything
- 15) When Allah tests man by giving him wealth and good things in the world, he boasts proudly and says “I deserve this honour from my Lord”
- 16) But when Allah tests him by giving him very little wealth and blessings, he complains and says, “I do not deserve this disgrace from my Lord”
- 17) Absolutely not! In fact the disbelieving men are not kind towards orphans
- 18) They do not encourage each other to feed the poor
- 19) And they devour the inheritance of others greedily,
- 20) And they love the wealth of this world very dearly
- 21) Enough! When the earth is entirely crushed over and over and turned into bits
- 22) And Allah comes to judge people with angels, lined up in rows.
- 23) and Hell is brought in the front on that Day—this is when every ˹disbelieving˺ person will remember ˹their own sins˺. But what is the use of remembering then?
- 24) They will cry, “I wish I had done something good for my this life!
- 25) On that Day Allah will punish ˹them˺ with a severe punishment like no other.
- 26) And Allah will bind them tightly, like no other
- 27) And Allah will say to the obedient believers ‘oh peaceful soul”
- 28) Come back to your Lord, you are happy with Him and He is happy with you
- 29) So join my special servants
