90 Surah Al – Balad – The City

In the name of Allah, the entirely Merciful, the especially Merciful

1) Allah swears by the city of Mecca
2) And the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is going to be allowed to punish the enemies of Islam in this city,
3) And Allah swears by every parent and their child
4) For sure Allah has created humans to live in hard struggles
5) Do they think that no one has power over them,
6) And men boast by saying that “I have spent lots and lots of money”
7) Do they think that no one sees them?
8) Has Allah not given them two eyes,
9) a tongue, and two lips
10) And shown them the right and wrong path
11) If only they had tried the challenging path of goodness instead˺!
12) And do you know what the challenging path of goodness is?
13) It is to free a slave,
14) And to give food in times of hunger
15) To an orphan who maybe you relative
16) Or to a needy person lying in dust
17) And—above all—to be one of those who have faith and encourage each other to be patient and kind.
18) These are the people who will be given their books of deeds in their right hand on the Day of Judgement
19) As for those who reject the signs of Allah, they will be given their books of deeds in their left hand.
20) The Fire will be shut over them without any windows or ways to get out.

Abbaad Ibn Bishr (may Allah be pleased with him) stands guard as the Muslim army takes a rest for the night. All is calm and quiet and Abbaad decides to offer Salah in the peaceful night. However, things take a turn when he is shot by an arrow in the middle of his prayers.

Fatima, (May Allah be pleased with her) the Queen of Jannah leads a simple and humble life in this world. Her husband Ali, and her sons Hassan and Hussain (May Allah be pleased with them) are dearest to the Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (Peace be upon him). When the two boys unfortunately fall sick, the worried parents vow to fast for three days to ask Allah to grant them health.

Things become challenging when right at the time to break the first fast, a needy person knocks at the door and requests the noble family to share their food. This pattern repeats on the second day and third.
